For Jyoti, the clients requested 2 pieces in their doorway which would reflect the traditional moghul style of painting.  We searched for images & brought them a set to choose from.  They also wanted the restaurant's name incorporated into the image so I developed a hand-drawn font for that.  Since the murals were being done in the restaurant's entranceway, we had to work when they were closed.  It took about a week to complete, from planning phase to completion.

For Bruce Monroe Elementary, this was a one-day project that was coordinated by 'Hands-On!', a DC-based non-profit, with Anyahlee Suderman.  The school had requested a theme of 'Celebrating Diversity & Multiculturalism'.  A small group of children were involved in planning the mural content & coming up with a slogan to include on the wall.  Then small groups came in rotation to help with painting & were given a chance to contribute creatively.  The adult artists running the project stayed until the end of the day, 'cleaning' it up & tying elements together, seeing that it was one cohesive piece at the end of the day.

Artspace/New Community was a huge undertaking that would have been impossible without the invaluable help, late nights, & countless hours contributed by Nilay Lawson & Breck Brunson, who helped with every phase of the project from planning to prep to execution.  This included coordinating a large volunteer base on build day, & countless after-hours shifts to complete the project.  This project took over two months from inception to completion.  The transformation of Artspace & other parts of the New Community complex was suggested by then-executive director Tony Diggs.  New Community had received a grant from Kaboom! to have a playground built for the children, however the funds allotted far exceeded the size & scope of playground for which New Community had space, and thus the huge transformation project was enabled.

Laura's Room: This theme room in Children’s Hospital (Washington, DC) was commissioned in the memory of Laura Nerenberg who passed away after long-term care on this wing of the hospital.  The family requested a boardwalk theme, as this room was designated a recreation center/game room.  The slideshow takes you around the room, from left to right.
